KILLINGLY PUBLIC LIBRARY
Computer/Internet Procedure

The Killingly Public Library, funded by the Town of Killingly, is pleased to provide computer workstations in accordance with the following:

All users must have basic computer skills, including the ability to use a mouse or rollerball.

Sign-Up/Registration
Sign-up/sign-in is required to use the Reference/Internet workstations.
The Internet is just one reference tool available on these computers, and use of these computers is limited to one (1), one-hour session per day, including time required to print. Access to the computers is on a first-come-first-served basis and if you leave the library you may lose your spot on the Waiting List. Please plan your time accordingly. If no one is waiting, time may be extended at the discretion of the staff.

Children
Children under age nine must be accompanied by an adult, and may use these computers only while the adult sits with them. Children and young adults (ages 9-17) who wish to access the Internet must have a parent or guardian complete a permission form for our records.

Printing
All printouts from public workstations are printed for a fee. There are no free pages. Most pages print on the printer behind the circulation desk; please ask staff.

Hours of Use
Computer workstations are available for use during the hours that the library is open to the public.

Identification
A valid library card is required for use of the reference/Internet workstations. As of October 1, 2005, a Photo ID was no longer accepted for Internet use -- or any library service.

E-mail & Chat Rooms
Chat Rooms are specifically excluded from Internet access at library workstations. Only web-based e-mail accounts may be accessed at the library.

Security
Due to security concerns, there is no access to the floppy or CD drives and no saving, downloading, or installing programs or files to hard drives on library computers. Attempts to alter the operating system, change settings, or tamper with the hardware or software will result in suspension of computer privileges at the library.
